In "West Matukituki Ramble," John Viehman teams up with Peter Hillary and John Harlin for a trek in the land of the kiwis. The route is up the Matukituki River through Mt Aspiring National Park, the second largest national park in New Zealand, en route to an ascent of one of New Zealand's Southern Alps. The challenge will be to choose which one.

In "Sons of the Mountaineers," John Viehman, who has long had a fear of heights, is happy to be in the company of two second-generation mountaineers, Peter Hillary and John Harlin. Hillary's father, Sir Edmund, was the first to climb Mt Everest. Harlin's father was the first American to climb the notorious Eiger North Face in Switzerland. He died there four years later while attempting the first "direct route." Viehman learns about what it's like to be from a line of climbers and how that has affected Hillary and Harlin's own climbing careers, risk-taking decisions and family lives.
